- Qualified Applicants will be currently enrolled in a recognized California degree program in surveying/geomatics.
- Qualified Candidate will have a minimum GPA of 2.5 for overall college classes.
- Candidates will be selected by applying the following preferences as listed in order of importance:
- A student who has demonstrated a commitment to professional activities.
- A student who has demonstrated an interest in working for a Sonoma County based surveying firm.
- A student who has demonstrated an ability to maintain a strong GPA.
- A student who has a demonstrated financial need.
- A student member of the local chapter of the California Land Surveyor's Association in good standing. A student member in good standing will be as defined in current Chapter Bylaws.
- A current or former resident of Sonoma County.
- A student who shows professionalism in the submittal of their scholarship application.

Bakersfield Chapter Scholarship

- Applicants must be enrolled in an ABET accredited surveying program.
- Applicants must have a minimum a 2.0 GPA
- Preference will be given to students who demonstrate the following:
- A commitment to professional activities
- Interest in working for a Kern County based firm
- Financial need
- Current or former resident of Kern, Inyo, or Mono County
- Shows professionalism in submittal of application

ABOUT JEREMY REDOMOND
Jeremy Redmond Memorial Scholarship - Central Coast Chapter CLSA Jeremy Redmond was born in Clovis California. I met Jeremy while attending Fresno State University. We were both working towards Bachelor in Science degree in Surveying Engineering. Jeremy became a close friend after graduation when he moved to the Central Coast in 1997 to work for a local engineering company. I joined Jeremy at the same company and we worked as a two-man field crew for several months. During that time I learned that Jeremy was a very hard worker and an overall good person to be around. He was always determined to accomplish the task at hand as efficiently and thoroughly as possible. Jeremy was very enthusiastic about surveying. Working hard was easy for him especially when faced with a challenge and an opportunity to learn more. A good example of that is the summer Jeremy spent in Alaska working for BLM helping to survey public land. He had some great stories about bears hassling the survey crews, riding in helicopters, cutting line through dense forest, the whole nine yards. I've seen a picture of Jeremy holding the biggest Lingcod (fish) I have ever seen which he caught in Alaska during his internship there. Besides surveying, I know Jeremy really liked ice hockey. He played for Fresno State. He was more than willing to take one for the team, as he had a broken leg for a few months during our first year at Fresno. That did not stop him from completing the survey lab classes. As most surveyors, Jeremy was very active and enjoyed outdoor activities. Jeremy was a good friend. I think his self-motivation, determination, and eagerness to learn has been inspiring and a good influence on the people around him.

ABOUT AMBROSE EDWARD GRIFFIN, P. L. S.
Ambrose Edward Griffin was born on October 14, 1926, in Oregon. He died on December 29, 1977 in Sacramento, California Ed's surveying experience started in Oregon with the United States Forest 1965 he transferred to the San Francisco office. In 1974 he transferred to Land Management in Sacramento as Chief of Cadastre. Ed served the California Land Surveyors Association in several ways: East officer, State Committee Chair, Director-at-Large, State President in 1976. He was licensed as a Land Surveyor in California in 1966. Ed was a true believer in Land Surveying education, as an early supporter State program and an advocate of Professional Development for all surveyors. He completed his college education after coming to California, earning his degree in Economics from San Francisco State College. Ed died tragically, shot by a stray bullet while unloading groceries.

Monterey Bay Chapter, Delwyn Rasmussen Memorial Scholarship

Delwyn Clyde Rasmussen "Rass" PLS 2689 was born in Ferron, UT in 1917. During WWII, he worked for the weather station in close relationship with the U.S. Military. After the war years, he moved to the Monterey Peninsula where he began working with companies that "chain the land." He soon opened his own land surveying company. He was a surveyor, owner and consultant well into his 80s. Rass and his company were well-known for their honesty, integrity and professionalism.
One of his most complex projects was the 1978 Official Map of the Custom House Redevelopment Project in Monterey; the street layouts there were originally determined by the "best fit" between the old adobes. This project turned a blighted area into the present Custom House Plaza with the traffic tunnel below. Rass kept his license current after retirement; he had the lowest PLS number among all of the active licenses issued in California. He remarkably lived his last eight years "off the grid" taking care of the land and a collection of animals. Rass passed away at the age of 99 in March 2017. He set a fine example for many of us, and will be very much missed.

Candidates will be evaluated for potential selection by applying the following preferences as listed in order of importance.
- A student member of the Chapter in good standing. A student member in good standing will be as defined in current Chapter Bylaws.
- A current or former resident of the Sacramento Chapter area.
- A student who has demonstrated an interest in the surveying profession by attending seminars, workshops, conferences, or in other ways has demonstrated an interest in the surveying profession beyond school and employment.
Should no candidate be selected the scholarship award shall be held in the Foundation's account for a future award.

If a candidate cannot be found to meet the criteria listed above, the foundation will NOT select anyone and the scholarship will rollover.

Sacramento Chapter - Roy Minnick Memorial Scholarship

The Roy Minnick Scholarship is to be awarded to a student that is either a junior or in the second semester of their sophomore year, or equivalent. With respect to this scholarship, 4 years of military service with a MOS in surveying or a related field is equivalent to 4 semesters of classes and 2 years of field experience. It is desired that the student has demonstrated excellence in the surveying curriculum and have exhibited outstanding leadership qualities being held in high regard by their teachers and their peers. The student should have a 3.0 GPA or higher and have had a minimum of 6 months of summer work experience in surveying or a related field with either a governmental, military or private organization. It is also desired that the student be a member of and have actively participated in a student or regular chapter of CLSA. Consideration will be given to the candidate who most closely represents the ideals Roy Minnick exemplified during his surveying career.

Ted passed away on August 24, 2010 after bravely battling cancer for two years and still remaining an active member of CLSA and the San Joaquin Valley Chapter. Ted served as Chapter President, Newsletter Editor, and State Representative. Ted was a great friend to the surveying profession and he will be missed.

ABOUT W.O. GENTRY
William O. Gentry, PLS 2737 passes away on April 13, 1998 at the age of 75. Bill moved to Fresno in 1933. He quickly took up an interest in land surveying and in 1948 began his career with J. A. Ross & Associates. He was licensed in 1952 and stayed with J.A. Ross until starting his own firm, W.O. Gentry Land Surveying, in 1970. Bill was an active member of the San Joaquin Valley Chapter, CLSA, as well as the state organization. His sense of humor, professional attitude and his support of the surveying profession has been missed by his many friends and colleagues

San Joaquin Valley Chapter, Peter J. Binz Memorial Scholarship

Peter Binz was born in Fresno County and grew up in the San Joaquin Valley. Peter initially expressed an interest in Civil Engineering. However, while working at his brother’s Civil Engineering firm, Peter was introduced to the Land Surveying profession and discovered his true calling. Peter decided to transfer to the Geomatics Program at Fresno State and work towards a career in Land Surveying. Peter participated in the California Land Surveyors Student Chapter, serving as President, while he was pursing his degree, and continued this involvement after graduation as a member of the San Joaquin Valley Chapter serving as Vice-President, President, and Treasurer. He obtained his license as a Professional Land Surveyor in 2017, but as a life long learner he was always looking for ways to better himself as a professional and mentor. Peter was a critical thinker and problem solver who would always come up with creative solutions to problems he encountered in the office and the field. Outside of his professional life he was a witty charismatic guy. He was always willing to help a friend or neighbor and was never shy to share his perspective. He enjoyed working on his muscle car, cycling, and spending time with friends and family.
